Lately I have been asking myself the question “What’s my number one?” This may seem like a strange question but let me explain. Often we try to put things in our lives in our own order of importance. Numerous times the things that we need to be concentrating on the most (our number one) is the thing we try to skip in order to get to something else, something easier, or something we prefer more. When I imagine a mental picture of this list, I think about it in regard to dreams, visions, and objectives for our lives.
There has been a specific number one on my list for about 7 months now. I kept asking the Lord why I wasn’t able to get any traction on my list and it hit me, He cannot allow me to get to number 2, 3, or 4 without me first being obedient to my number one. At times I am definitely guilty of trying to rush things. I am also guilty of attempting to multi-task when that isn’t really my strong suit. I think that both of these are important to admit because they were the roadblocks to focusing on my number one. I was so worried about rushing to the next thing and worrying about many things at the same time, that I was unable to complete the most important task at hand.
I now realize that the order we sense in our gut is truly the order that the Holy Spirit intends for us to follow. I was trying to complete my list out of order but God is gracious, and He was able to salvage the plans before I took them over in my own strength. So I say all of that to ask you, what is your number one? What is the thing that you have been avoiding but you know must be crossed off of the list? My prayer for you is that you trust your gut and find the perfect order in which to complete the tasks that you are called to accomplish. This truly is the best way to get things done.
